SUPER LONG POST AHEAD! When I turned 18, I faced every young adult’s worst fear – acne. I became very insecure about how I looked and tried almost every popular product to get rid of it. Five years later, I have finally solidified a routine that works for me and has gotten rid of most of my acne. One of the latest trends is Korean skincare. After looking into it, I came to find that Koreans go through a TEN STEP skin routine. YES, you read that right. I figured that I should try it out despite the long process since all Korean women seem to have flawless skin (ironic since I’m half Korean).
Although these are all my own opinions, I hope this can work for you too! Before I get into it, my skincare type is typically dry/combo and sensitive.
Step 1: Oil Cleanser
I was pretty hesitant on purchasing an oil cleanser for many reasons. I mean, what’s wrong with using my Costco brand facial wipes to take off my makeup? Well apparently this is part of a dual-cleansing process to make sure all your makeup and other residue comes off your face. For this step, I am using the TATCHA Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil and it is AMAZING, y’all. Not only is it for all skin types, but it literally melts away all my makeup (even waterproof mascara).
Step 2: Facial Cleanser
I kept this one simple and stayed with my go-to! The Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser works well for any skin type. The product also feels like it is seriously cleaning your skin. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with this brand.
Step 3: Exfoliator
I don’t always use an exfoliator (due to my sensitive skin), so I only use it once or twice a week. I have fallen in love with powder exfoliators because it feels so nice on the face and makes it feel like a baby’s butt afterwards. I’m currently using the TATCHA Polished Gentle Rice Enzyme Powder. Super gentle, yet very effective! They have different types of powder exfoliators based on your skin type. I use the powder for sensitive/dry skin.
Step 4: Serums
Serums have definitely helped my skin with retaining moisture, improving skin tone, and getting rid of dark spots. For this step I use the Vinoperfect Radiance Serum and Dermalogica Serum Concentrate.
Step 5: Toner
Toners help your skin balance it’s pH levels and hydrate it at the same time. To be honest, I never noticed the difference that toners made on my face until I started using the Mario Badescu Aloe Vera Toner. Since this toner contains aloe vera, it is perfect for dry and sensitive skin (hello, me). It soothes irritated skin and helps unclogs pores too!
Step 6: Essence
Essences basically help hydrate your skin while repairing it. One of the most popular facial sprays that seems to be the latest beauty necessity has become my favorite. It is none other than the Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herb and Rosewater. It really helps me when my skin gets too dry and almost works like a primer to set your makeup.
Step 7: Treatments
This took me FOREVER to figure out what actually worked for me. I did kind of expect treatments to work within 24 hours, but many products either made me break out everywhere or didn’t do anything at all. Luckily my good friend, Anna, told me the secret of Tea Tree Oil. All I do is add Tea Tree Oil to a cotton swab/pad and dilute it with some water and voila! Just apply it to your pimple.
Optional: Sheet Masks
I LIVE for sheet masks because they make me feel so pampered 🙂 I honestly just go into Ulta or Sephora and pick out sheet masks that will help the current skin issue I’m facing. Some of my favorites include brands like Dr. Jart+, Leaders and Tony Moly!
Step 8: Eye Cream
I started using eye cream when I noticed my eye bags getting darker and drier. I’m currently using the Cerave Eye Cream. I can honestly say that it has made a huge difference in improving my dry and dark eye bags.
Step 9: Moisturizer
I SWEAR by this moisturizer. It is the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream. I have never had a moisturizer that doesn’t break me out and actually moisturizes/fixes my dry a** skin. It instantly hydrated my skin overnight, yet feels so light on the skin. What more can you ask for?!
Step 10: Sun Protection
This has been something I have struggled with being persistent in. I mean… I rarely get sunburned so why did I need sunscreen on my face everyday.. right? Well after plenty of research I have found how damaging the sun really is to your skin. I am trying to get better at using my Neutrogena Sunblock. I have always used Neutrogena sunscreen products and it has never failed me.
My FAVE mask of all time is the Aztec Indian Healing Clay Mask. It’s only $10 and lasts for months and months!!! Although it deeply cleanses my face and has really helped me clear my acne, it is still gentle enough for my dry, sensitive skin. I highly recommend EVERYONE to try it!! Remember, a little does a long way 🙂 As always, drink plenty of water and clean your makeup brushes/sponges regularly.
I’ve gone through a lot of trial and error with skincare so if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!
